This
weekend it's VACATION
TIME! Get out and enjoy your labor day weekend. I'm personally
headed to Florida to visit Mickey (and, of course, my family).
But if you're stickin' around the ATL there's still some good
stuff to choose from. I'd HIGHLY recommend the 1st
Annual Dragon*Con Parade @ Centennial
Olympic Park -
that's gonna be some TOP NOTCH people watchin' - bummed I'm
gonna miss it.
But whatever you're doin' start planning for the NEXT few
weeks NOW! First
Thursdays is ON in downtownATL next Thursday including
a special wine tasting at one of the venues - Trinity Downtown
Lounge - to benefit Crossroads. Then on Friday night the monthly
LUCKY STREET WINE CLUB hits Caliterra.
Call (678) 686-3325 for more info and to RSVP.
Also the first "Urban
Challenge: ATLANTA" kicks off at Champions in downtown
at 8:30 a.m. next Saturday mornin'. Be sure to check the web
site REGISTER to get in on this VERY cool and very different
event.
The following weekend is even more ACTION PACKED with TwentyTwenty
@ Cavu on Thursday, The
Saddlebred Soiree @ The Fabulous Fox Theatre on Friday
night and the 2002
ArtParty @ The Contemporary on Saturday. I am co-hosting
so please be sure to tell 'em you heard it on the dtnATL:
SC!!
For happenings outside of the downtownATL area, "Atlanta
Illustrated" is your ticket. Highlights this week
include the Square
Hat Pre-Labor Day Cocktail Party @ The W Hotel on Thursday
night.
Hope to see yall real soon

Urban Challenge: ATLANTA @ Champions
(starting line)
SAT SEP 7 8:30a
Do you have the courage to take on a unique urban adventure?
Two-person teams find and visit 12 checkpoints on the unrehearsed
urban landscape using only clues, their feet, and public transit.
No set course. Event begins with a Trivia Challenge
the sharpest teams get a head start. It's about adventure!
Urban Challenge is not how fast or how far you run or how
well you know the city.
The goal of Urban Challenge is simple. Be the first to pass
through 12 checkpoints in the city. Of course, there are a
few twists.
Think...
Intelligence is an advantage. Two-person teams that score
better in the Trivia Challenge start earlier. And you'll find
your checkpoint locations only by solving clues. There's book
smarts, and then there's street smarts. You'll need both.
There's no set course. It's up to you.
... on the Run
You can only use your feet or public transportation. No bikes
or rollerblades, no cars or taxis or pedicabs. When and where
you use your sneakers or the bus is up to you. You are in
control.

United
InDeed @ Hurt & Centennial Olympic Parks
WED SEP 11 6:30p
No matter where you live, there will be opportunities to observe
September 11 in a meaningful way. Throughout metro Atlanta,
a multitude of activities and events will allow us to reflect
on the lives lost and the heroes gained.
On the evening of September 11, 2002 our region will indeed
be united with a community-embracing event in downtown Atlanta.
Following a memorial service at Hurt Park beginning at 6:30
p.m., a procession of unity will make its way to Centennial
Olympic Park. There, we will honor our heroes gained from
September 11 and have a celebration of unity.
A United
InDeed Organizing Committee, with representation from
corporations, non-profit organizations, government entities,
young adults, religious organizations, and media, is serving
as a central coordinating point for the community for September
11 activities within three major areas: volunteer initiatives,
interfaith services, and community wide gatherings/events.
Go to the Web and Get Involved! Point your browser to www.unitedwayatlanta.org
and click on the United InDeed icon to find the latest information
on volunteer opportunities, community events, and other activities
taking place on and around September 11.
Follow up on a volunteer opportunity. Get your company involved.
Plan to attend a community event. Give blood. There are many
ways we can individually and collectively play a role.
If you would like to post the plans of your company, school
or religious organization, there is an online form you can
submit to be included.
A Special Opportunity
The United InDeed organizing committee is grateful for the
in-kind and financial support already pledged, but more is
needed. To find out how to make a contribution or to become
a sponsor of this event, please contact Steve Bales at (404)
614-6258 or e-mail sbales@unitedwayatl.org.
All funds collected will be used solely to defray actual event
costs.
We hope you will plan to be a part of United InDeed. Thank
you
