Holly Cole's Christmas Jazz @
The Rialto 8p
Canadian jazz singer Holly Cole, joined by her trio and a
string section, will bring a delightful program of holiday
songs and jazz standards to the Rialto to kick off the holiday
season. One of the finest interpreters of song performing
today, Cole can take a lyric, slow it down, explore it and
deconstruct it before putting it back together in a charming
new way. Her sense of timing, melody and playfulness has earned
her a huge following around the world. Her current CD, Baby,
It's Cold Outside, celebrates the Christmas season through
holiday standards and lesser-known chestnuts, all of which
she manages to make entirely her own.

A
musical without singers? Well, no -- there's Robert Palmer,

book musical with a minimum of talking? Yes, but Broadway's
hottest director / choreographer wrote it with one of Broadway's
most honored musical book writers. Time Magazine flat out
hailed Contact for "kicking the dust off a tired old
Broadway." They raved, "Contact is a trio of exquisitely
tooled production numbers peopled with lonely hearts longing
to reach out to someone, and when they finally touch, your
own heart does all the singing necessary."
