Atlanta Journal/Constitution International Auto Show @ Georgia World Congress Center
Area new car enthusiasts will once again have the chance to shop and compare from over 38 different lines of new vehicles when the 23rd Annual Atlanta Journal-Constitution International Auto Show returns to the Georgia World Congress Center on April 9-17, 2005.
This will mark the first year that this very successful show will run for nine days. This expansion is really no surprise, because Atlanta has been one of the fastest growing five day auto shows in the nation, setting new records for attendance during each of the past two years.
The 2005 show will also have the benefit of two weekends during its nine day run.
"It's time for our show to grow to nine days," commented Shayne Wilson, President of the Metro Atlanta Automobile Dealers Association (MAADA). "The growth of the Atlanta show has been amazing in its 22 years. It is not only the largest annual consumer event at the Georgia World Congress Center, but also the largest show of its kind in the Southeastern U.S."
The show is also the largest automotive event for the Metro Atlanta dealers, featuring a wide variety of styles, including luxury vehicles, economy cars, sports cars, exotics, limited production cars, concepts, convertibles, MPV vans, light trucks and 4-wheel drive vehicles.

Atlanta Opera's FIDELIO @ Atlanta Civic Center 8p

Make it a Night at the Opera !
Join us for the Final Opera as the Atlanta Opera concludes its 2004-2005 25th Aniversary Season

An Atlanta Opera Premiere with all-new sets and costumes!  The Atlanta Opera concludes its 25th Anniversary Season with...Beethoven's only opera - FIDELIO.

Beethoven composed only one opera. It took him three tries and ten years, but he made it count. His resulting Fidelio, an Atlanta Opera premiere, remains a musically haunting monument to the composer's passionate belief in human freedom and its ultimate power to vanquish oppression. Though composed almost 200 years ago, the opera's message is as fresh as this morning's headlines. Florestan is unjustly imprisoned and faces almost certain death at the hands of the evil commander Pizarro, except that Florestan's wife, Leonore, has disguised herself as the jailer's assistant, Fidelio, and is determined to rescue him. Her courage is rewarded and the opera ends with a magnificent, rousing chorus celebrating the virtues of faith and love.

Georgia Force vs. Grand Rapids Rampage @ Philips Arena 7:30p
The Georgia Force host their second of a back-to-back home stand when the Grand Rapids Rampage visit Philips Arena on Friday, April 15th at 7:30 p.m. ET. With an 8-3 record, Georgia sits atop the National Conference standings and Southern Division.

This season the Force are a perfect 5-0 at home and are currently riding a team record seven game home winning streak going back to last year. The home victory over the Austin Wranglers last week ensured that Georgia will finish with a winning home record for the first time in the team’s four year history. The eight victories on the year also ties the club mark for most regular season wins in a season (8-8 in 2003).

Grand Rapids will be Georgia’s only opponent this season hailing from the Central Division. The Rampage come into the game owning the League’s top rushing offense averaging 53.7 yards a game on the ground. By contrasts, the Force boasts the AFL’s fourth rated run defense only allowing 15.9 rushing yards per game.

Atlanta Wings Festival
@ Sweet Auburn
Get your taste buds ready and roll up those sleeves for what promises to be a lip smackin’, finger lickin’ good weekend at the Sweet Auburn Business Improvement Association’s inaugural Atlanta Wings Festival on Auburn Avenue, April 16 & 17, 2005.

During the free event, residents and visitors can sample a variety of chicken wing recipes from leading restaurants serving wings in and around Atlanta.  Whether hot & spicy, lemon pepper, teriyaki, garlic & sage, barbecue, or more, there will be many flavors to please the palate at this celebration of “all things wings.”

But, why wings... on Auburn Avenue, you ask? Think about it:  Atlanta is home of the Falcons, Hawks and Thrashers—all winged birds.  It’s home base for the world’s busiest airport and Delta Air Lines; and a major hub for Airtran.  Again, wings!  Auburn Avenue is birthplace of the legendary Royal Peacock, Atlanta’s first black night club, which during its prime featured acclaimed national acts like Cab Calloway, Dizzy Gillespie, Otis Redding and James Brown.  And, just as Atlanta rose on the wings of the Phoenix, Auburn Avenue is now in the midst of a rebirth that will help the historic community rise and reclaim its once prominent stature.

The Atlanta Wings Festival comes complete with live music, family entertainment, an artist market and shopping in neighborhood establishments.  Attendees can sample wide varieties of wings using cost-saving coupon books, which may be purchased in advance at the Sweet Auburn Curb Market or during the festival.  The $5 books buy 10 wings of any variety from the participating event restaurants.

Visitors can also cast their votes during the festival for the “People’s Choice” award for best tasting wings. The goodwill of the Atlanta Wings Festival doesn’t stop with food.  The event offers guests a chance to also feed their souls by participating in worthwhile community service projects.  Teams of volunteers will work along Auburn Avenue, cleaning and beautifying the historic neighborhood.  The
day-long effort on April 16 is coordinated for National Youth Service Day in collaboration with Hands On Atlanta.  Volunteer registration begins on-site April 16 at 9am.   For more details, contact Hands On Atlanta at (404) 979-2800.
