WHAT: Downtown Atlanta Beach Volleyball Tournament presented in partnership with the 4th Annual Downtown Neighborhood Festival and Tour of Lofts by Central Atlanta Progress

WHEN: Friday, May 13 from Noon to 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, May 14 from Noon to 8:00 p.m.
Sunday, May 15 from Noon to 6:00 p.m.

WHERE: Downtown Atlanta's Woodruff Park
Admission is free

Grab your sunscreen, and get ready to play tough, because Atlanta's athletic scene is about to become one sport larger this summer! The first Downtown Atlanta Beach Volleyball tournament will take place in Downtown Atlanta's Woodruff Park from Friday, May 13th to Sunday, May 15th.

For this three-day period in May, Woodruff Park will transform its traditional park environment into a sandy, beach oasis where spectators and fans will revel in Atlanta‚s toughest, beachwear-clad competitors battling it out for the champion spot.

Atlanta needs a fun-in-the-sun event that is different from everything else happening this summer, commented Central Atlanta Progress Vice President of Marketing Wilma Sothern. With a beach area in the middle of Downtown and stiff competition from a collection of the city‚s best athletes, the Downtown Atlanta Beach Volleyball Tournament is going to be the event in May no one will want to miss!

With 20 doubles round robin matches that will be seeded for a single elimination play-off, the tournament will feature non-stop action throughout the weekend. Volleyball Atlanta, Atlanta's foremost volleyball league, will regulate and produce the tournament.

About the Atlanta Beach Volleyball Tournament
Founded in 2005 by Central Atlanta Progress, the Atlanta Beach Volleyball Tournament is a new summer event for Downtown Atlanta. Taking place in a transformed beach area in Woodruff Park Friday, May 13th, 2005 through Sunday, May 15th, 2005, the tournament will feature Atlanta‚s top volleyball competitors in a stiff competition leading up to a single elimination play-off produced and regulated by Volleyball Atlanta.

The 10th Annual Downtown Festival and Tour of Lofts will held on Saturday, May 14th and Sunday, May 15th, 2005. The event being run this year by the Atlanta Downtown Neighborhood Association (ADNA) in association with Central Atlanta Progress. It will feature a tour of some of Downtown Atlanta’s most unique residential properties, including lofts, condominiums, live/work spaces and apartments. The tour will run 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 12 - 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The Downtown Neighborhood Festival, which will be located along Broad, Walton, and Luckie Streets, will include live entertainment on two stages, an artist market, a children’s area, a beer garden and other activities designed to showcase Downtown Atlanta living.

Georgia Force vs. Dallas Desperados @ Philips Arena 7p

The Force victory clinched the club's first-ever Southern Division title with a 52-40 win over the Tampa Bay Storm last week, which guarantees a home game in the first round of the playoffs and made the Force the first team to secure a spot in the 2005 AFL playoffs.
