5TH GENERATION VINTNER COMING TO WENTE WINE DINNER AT CITY GRILL
Wines from Wente Vineyards will be featured at a winemaker dinner
Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at City Grill, located in the historic Hurt
Building at 50 Hurt Plaza in downtown Atlanta.
Vintner Karl Wente, a fifth generation member of the Wente family,
which manages the oldest continuously operating family winery in
California, will attend and provide commentary on the wines served.
Founded in 1883 in the historic Livermore Valley near San Francisco
Bay, Wente Vineyards is noted for its Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc,
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Reisling.
Karl started working at the family winery at the age of 11. A graduate
of Stanford University with a degree in chemical engineering, he
later earned master‚s degrees in horticulture (viticulture)
and food science (enology) at the University of California at Davis.
Joining the family wine business as a winemaker in the summer of
2002, he oversees production of the winery‚s Reserve and single-vineyard
wines. His passion for artisinal, hand-crafted reds has led to the
recent addition of a small-lot winemaking facility within the main
winery.
Hors d‚oeuvres will be passed during a reception at 6:30 p.m.
followed by a four-course dinner at 7:30 p.m. Wente‚s Riva
Ranch Chardonnay will accompany the first course of Roasted Beet
Salad with Citrus Vinaigrette and Goat Cheese. Halibut with Brie
Wild Mushroom Risotto will be paired with Reliz Creek Pinot Noir.
A City Grill Cheese Plate will be served with Cabernet Sauvignon.
Crane Ridge Reserve Merlot will enhance the dessert of Flourless
Chocolate Cake with Cherry Sauce.
