Wine Bottle +
Dinner @ MORTON'S
The Beringer Maximus, the Worlds Largest
Wine Bottle, will include Atlanta in a coast-to-coast tour
of 27 of the 61 Mortons, The Steakhouse restaurants in the
United States. The unprecedented tour celebrates the 25th anniversary
of Mortons.
The spectacular bottle has the capacity to hold more than 173 standard
bottles - the equivalent of 1,200 glasses of wine. Empty,
the bottle weighs 150 pounds. Filled with wine, it weighs 340 pounds.
The bottle will be on display during a reception from 6 to 8 p.m.
on Saturday, October 9, in the Mortons restaurant at 303 Peachtree
St. in downtown Atlanta. For $40 each, guests will enjoy an array
of Mortons hors doeuvres and two acclaimed Beringer
wines, a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Chardonnay. There will also be
opportunities for attendees to be photographed with the huge bottle.
Mortons, known for its extensive wine selection, partnered
with Beringer Vineyards in early 2004 to create the gigantic Bordeaux-style
bottle. The 4.5-foot tall bottle has been filled with 130 liters
of Beringers 2001 Napa Valley Private Reserve Cabern et Sauvignon.
It was certified as the Worlds Largest Wine Bottle
by the Guinness Book of Records on July 28.
The valuable bottle and its contents will be auctioned by Sothebys
in New York on November 20 with all the proceeds going the Share
Our Strength, a leading hunger-fighting umbrella organization. Bidding
is open to the public. For more information about the Worlds
Largest Wine Bottle and the tour, visit http://www.mortons.com.
