The Tabernacle is Atlanta’s own, completely unique downtown concert and special event facility. This historical landmark is Atlanta’s must see entertainment complex. "The Tabby" hosts an immense variety of events from top international musical talent to Fortune 500 corporate events.
The Tabernacle was built in 1911; at the time it was the Southeast’s largest Baptist Tabernacle. In the 1950’s, the Baptist Tabernacle boasted a congregation of over 5000 members. Over the years, as Atlanta’s population left the Downtown district for the greener suburbs, the Baptist Tabernacle lost its congregation and in the late 1980’s, it closed. The venue was re-opened during the 1996 Olympic games through an agreement between The City of Atlanta and the House of Blues.

Visit the spot where Atlanta sprouted up around the railroad and where it first rose from the Civil War ashes. Initially, Atlanta thrived because of the railroads, until the tracks threatened to choke the city like steel Kudzu. But Atlanta rose above the problem, literally. Viaducts were built over the tracks, and virtually all the traffic and commerce moved upwards, the original center of the city was all but forgotten. Now fully restored, Underground is the most popular visitor attraction in Georgia, where this year, millions of people will receive a true Atlanta experience.

A giant helium balloon has landed at Underground Atlanta! Atlanta’s newest attraction, the Comcast AeroBalloon will allow locals and visitors to soar high above and admire amazing views within a 20 mile radius of downtown Atlanta including the city’s skyline, Buckhead, and Stone Mountain. Up to 5 people at a time can travel upwards for a 10 minute adventure they will never forget.

Passengers lift off in a wicker gondola to a breathtaking 360--degree panoramic altitude of 350 feet above the ground. The balloon will remain attached to its tether cable and is retrieved back to terra firma via its winch, located at ground level. The balloon, simple and majestic in its appearance, is highly engineered. It is comprised of an outer skin, an internal ballonet, and a fan. Simply defined, it is a sphere shaped blimp. Its outer fabric is identical to the skin of a free--flying blimp seen daily flying over sporting events. The ballonet is a zero--porosity internal membrane filled with the inert gas helium. The ballonet dynamically expands and contracts with changes in altitude, barometric pressure, and/or temperature. The fan regulates this internally displaced air so that the balloon maintains its shape. AeroBalloon passengers will always be under the supervision of a certified AeroBalloon operator.

Woodruff Park is one of Downtown Atlanta’s most significant green spaces, at the heart of the city’s financial, entertainment, and academic districts. Lawn and plaza areas, a bandstand, sculpture and fountains combine to make this a flexible open space.
After several months of construction, Woodruff Park reopens with improvements to the park designed to accommodate large crowds on their lunch hour and for special events. Improvements include increasing electrical power in the park, repairing drainage systems and removing overgrown shrubbery which had become a haven for trash.

Woodruff Park is a great place for a special event. If you are interested in hosting an event, press conference or new product demonstration, contact the City of Atlanta Office of Special Events at 404-330-6741 or specialevents@atlantaga.gov
