Celebrate Independence in ATL's City Center
Each year, thousands of people come downtown to Centennial Olympic Park to celebrate Independence Day. Pack up the family, a picnic and join us in the park starting at 6:00 to enjoy the family entertainment, including children's activities, music from 70's and 80's show band Shimmer and special guests Classic Rock All-Stars.

The Classic Rock All-Stars include Peter Rivera, the original lead singer and drummer of Rare Earth 1969 - 1975, Jerry Corbetta, the original lead singer, keyboardist, founder and leader of Sugarloaf, Mike Pinera, the original singer and guitarist for Blues Image whose hits include the song "Ride Captain Ride", and Dennis Noda, the former leader and musical director for the group Cannibal and the Headhunters whose song has become the all-time party anthem "Na-Na, Na, Na, Na."

Also, the Braves are in town playing the Cubs this weekend and the 4th of July game Monday night will include special Post Game Fireworks presented by Publix. It is also Delta Patriot Cap Night with free hats for the first 45,000 fans.

Fourth of July Celebration

The Park invites all of Georgia to enjoy the family entertainment, including children's activities, music from 70's and 80's show band Shimmer and special guests Classic Rock All-Stars. Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.

Please bring the kiddies, but no pets this time. You're welcomed to bring food and non-alcoholic beverages, or enjoy the great tastes of the Fountainside Café. For your safety and the upkeep of the Park, please also avoid bringing glass products.

MARTA is strongly encouraged. Simply take the West Line to the Philips Arena/Dome/GWCC Station (W-1), or take the North Line to Peachtree Center (N-1), and follow the signs to Centennial Olympic Park.

Salute 2 America Parade

WSB-TV/Channel 2 will celebrate the Fourth of July with its annual WSB-TV Salute 2 America Parade, which this year will feature several special guests, including a celebrity grand marshal and Miss America Deidre Downs.The parade will start at 1 p.m. in downtown Atlanta at Peachtree and Ralph McGill streets in owntown Atlanta to Marietta Street before turning right and then going to Centennial Olympic Park Drive, where it ends.

"All the world's a stage . . ." We end the season as we began, with another trip into Shakespeare's enchanted woods where Rosalind disguises herself as a man as Orlando litters the woods with love notes praising her beauty and virtue.

Will the two lovers be united? Will Orlando survive the wrestling match? Will you have a great time? Here's a hint: in June there's no better place to be than in Shakespeare's woods at The Shakespeare Tavern.

Flicks on 5th: "The Grudge"

Georgia Tech Technology Square's Flicks on 5th, a free outdoor movie series is held at Centergy Plaza, 75 5th Street in Midtown.

The movies begin at sunset (approximately 9:00 pm) and will be held every Wednesday, rain or shine, through July 27. Complimentary popcorn will be served and limited seating provided. The public is encouraged to bring chairs and blankets for seating on the concrete square in front of Centergy Plaza. Technology Square restaurants on 5th Street will be open for pre-movie dining or takeout options.

Tony Hawk's Boom Boom HuckJam tour, the only choreographed arena show incorporating skateboarding, BMX and freestyle motocross under one roof headlined by skateboarding legend Tony Hawk. At the heart of the show is a $1 million ramp system, which includes a massive half-pipe encircled by a motocross track, enabling riders to launch over the skate ramp. Additionally, riders face the challenge of the Loop of Death and a 30-foot drop-in.
