MAY 20th:
Sweet
Auburn: Where the Dream Began
|
|
Tonight celebrate making it halfway through the week by taking in a free
concert! Wednesday
WindDown features live concerts by some of the best music acts in
town. Enjoy everything from jazz to contemporary music performed live
on stage. This week the featured act is Rio Negro Latin Jazz. If dinnertime
hunger sets in, theres no need to worry. Food and drinks
are available for purchase at the Fountainside Café, located in
the Visitor Center, and around the amphitheater.
Tomorrow head over to Sweet Auburn for two great events. First IMAGE Film
& Video and Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site present
the Atlanta debut of FEBRUARY
ONE, a documentary by Steven Channing, Rebecca Cerese, and Cynthia
Hill. Despite hard-fought gains in the fight for racial equality, segregation
remained firmly entrenched in 1960s America. February 1, 1960 changed
everything. Four college freshmen, now known as the Greensboro Four, sent
shockwaves throughout the world by engaging in the first lunch counter
sit-in a the downtown Woolworth building. The screening will be at 7:30pm
in the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site, Visitor Center
and is Free. Afterwards check out the new exhibit "Sweet
Auburn: Where the Dream Began", which launches tomorrow and will be running through November.
