Underground History Tour

Travel back in time with Underground's newest attraction - a guided history tour! Written by nationally acclaimed historian and scriptwriter, Peter Bonner, the tour includes ten historic stops throughout the property offering insightful history and amusing entertainment at the same time. For instance, did you know that Underground is home to what was the original tallest building in Atlanta, or that Joel Chandler Harris, author of Uncle Remus, used to wait for his horse drawn trolley on what is now known as Alabama Street? Explore everything from the zero mile-marker that marked the first railroad responsible for Atlanta's growth in the 1800s to an amazing view of the Capital as you discover or, perhaps, rediscover the beauty of the original Atlanta that is known today as Underground. The tour is now open Friday-Saturday (11am, 1pm & 3pm) & Sundays at 1pm & 3pm.

On the fourth Saturday of every month, April through September, Centennial Olympic Park hosts Fourth Saturday Family Fun Days. From noon to 4 p.m., families participate in a free, themed mini-festival featuring interactive games, performances, and arts and crafts, all intended to entertain and educate.
This month bring Your Creativity to the Park for “All About Art”. Budding artists won’t want to miss out on Fourth Saturday Family Fun Day at Centennial Olympic Park in June. The Park presents “All About Art,” Saturday, June 26. From noon to 4 p.m., Family Fun Day participants can spin a wheel and create a piece of art with FISH radio, assemble stuffed animals using recyclable materials with Katie, Katie the Paper Lady, and enjoy a variety of activities presented in APEX Museum’s Mtoto-Kijiji (Mtoe-toe-key-jee-jee) or “Children’s Village.” These will include arts and crafts activities where children can create their own musical instruments and masks, enjoy face painting, storytelling and lessons on how to speak and count in Swahili.

In addition to all of these fabulous activities, dancers from the professional company of the Georgia Ballet will perform as well as students from the upper levels of the Georgia Ballet School. The Georgia Ballet will also bring costumes, including pointe shoes and tutus, for aspiring dancers to see up close.
Families are encouraged to take MARTA to this Fourth Saturday Family Fun Day because of an extensive number of activities taking place downtown June 23 through 26.

Every month has a different theme, so be sure to return July 24 for “It’s About Sports.”
