FIRST
(For Inspiration and Recognition of Science) Robotics Championship
@ GA Dome
Months of preparation and regional competitions culminate April
21-23 at the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and
Technology) Championship. For the first time, this year’s
event marks the culmination of three separate season-long robotics
competitions: The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), FIRST LEGO League
(FLL) World Festival and the FIRST Vex Challenge. All three competitions
will take place in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta between April 21
and 23. FIRST was created by Dean Kamen, the inventor of the Segway
Human Transporter (HT), to inspire young people’s interest
and participation in science and technology.
At FIRST, we want to show kids that it’s more fun to design
and build a video game than it is to play one, and the FIRST Championship
is a spectacular example of that idea in action, said FIRST Founder
Dean Kamen. These kids have worked alongside professional engineers
to design and build robots, learn teamwork and develop life skills,
and now they’ve earned the right to compete
at the ultimate robotics competition.
The chief competition of the weekend will be the FIRST Robotics
Competition (FRC) Championship for high-school students, now in
its fourteenth – and largest ever – season. Three hundred
forty high school robotics teams, comprised of 8,500 students, will
compete for top honors. This year’s game,
Triple Play, presents several new challenges to the teams: 3 versus
3 competition, new game objects and goals, a Tetrahedron game piece,
vision camera and associated electronics. Nearly 1,000 teams made
up of 25,000 high-school students from the United States, Brazil,
Canada, Ecuador, Mexico, Israel and the United Kingdom participated
in 30 regional competitions throughout March and April. In addition
to earning a spot in the championship in Atlanta, teams competed
for honors that reward design excellence, competitive play, sportsmanship,
and partnerships between schools, businesses, and communities.

Hooray for Hollyweird @ Agathas LAST NIGHT!!!
Grab your Oscar & hold on tight to your Golden Globes! Hollyweird's
biggest collection of wacko stars want to move Tinsel Town to Georgia,
but there's a psycho southern killer who has other plans! Just as
plans are finalized to move Hollyweird California to beautiful Butt-Head
Georgia, the mysterious Sweet Tea Strangler goes on another murderous
rampage. No one is safe with this sugary sweet assassin in town.
Can Atlanta Mayor Surley Frankly & California Govern-ator Arnold
Squat-some-later stop the Sweet Tea Strangler before he spoils the
big move? Probably not. I mean, come on, they're just politicians.
It's going to take a Super Cop to bring this villan to justice.
Let's just hope he arrives before the brightest stars in Hollyweird
are snuffed out. Russel Crowbar, Britney Spheres, Sloop Dogg, Jessica
Simpleton, Jim Scary, Jay Chin-o, Halle Barely and You are on the
guest list to appear. "Who will disappear?", is the question.
JOIN THE FUN AND FIND THE MURDERER!! IT MIGHT EVEN BE YOU! As always
at Agatha's, the audience participates in the action in the comic
murder mystery. Each night, the entire audience has a chance to
die laughing between 5 courses of dinner including hor d'oeuvres,
a choice of entree' and very cheap wine with the meal. Prices range
from $45.00 to $55.00 per person.
