@ 24/7 Gateway Center |
With an overarching goal of ending chronic
homelessness in metropolitan Atlanta, the 24/7
Gateway Center opened TODAY! The 24/7 Gateway
Center will provide an estimated 500 people per day
with programs, services, and referrals to help
overcome homelessness. Under a joint agreement
with the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta and the
Regional Commission on Homelessness, the Atlanta
Union Mission will operate the 24/7 Gateway and
facilitate the collaboration. The Center will be
housed in the former city pretrial detention facility at
Garnett and Pryor Streets.
The Atlanta Union Mission will manage the facility under a joint agreement with The United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta. Vince Smith, the Mission’s Director of Community Relations and Senior Chaplain, will direct the Center. The United Way came aboard early in the process that led to creation of the Center. At the request of Mayor Shirley Franklin, the United Way formed a Commission of Atlanta leaders to study the problem of homelessness. The result is the Blueprint to End Homelessness in Atlanta in Ten Years. 24/7 Gateway is the flagship project under the Blueprint. |

@ The World Trade Center Atlanta |
Tuesday August 2nd
The Great Decisions is the oldest and largest
grassroots world affairs educational program of its
kind. Participants receive an annual publication from
the Foreign Policy Association that serves as the
basic component of all Great Decisions programs. The
briefing book places the thematic or geographic
issues covered in historical context and provides
background, current policies and alternative policy
options.
Tonight's discussion is on China Emerging as an Economic Giant. China is increasingly influential globally, but continues to face obstacles at home. As China’s record economic growth continues, the country must still contend with a growing gap between rich and poor, devastating pollution and resource shortages. What strategies can China adapt to sustain its economy while meeting the needs of its people? |

@ 24/7 Gateway Center |
Sunday, July 31st
Beginning July 31, The Cup will meet on Sunday
mornings at 9:30 a.m. at the 24/7 Gateway Center.
The Cup is NAPC's ministry to the neighborhood poor.
Held on the first floor of the main church building, the
heart of this ministry is the lively worship service of
singing, praying, preaching, and offering.
Increasingly, members of North Avenue have come to
attend this service as their primary worship
experience. NAPC's laity, including Elders and
Deacons, lead the worship each week. Following the
service, bag lunches and clothing are distributed. A
medical clinic staffed by volunteer physicians and
nurses is available for the ill, as well as prayer groups
and counseling.
